The generators in Houston fried this afternoon and the back up is in Dallas. Unfortunately, some asshat backhoe'd the fiber uplink in Dallas and now spectrum is scrambling to bring down generators from Tyler.
Maybe I'll get a few days without them emailing me, calling me, or snail-mailing me with their latest promotion. Sorry for those of you without service.
Apparently caused by a power outage at a peering point in Houston (hurricane related) and then a backup fiber link to Dallas was also cut accidentally. What this really exposes is the sheer inadequacy in terms of redundancy in peering points for such a large segment of subscribers. Can't say I'm surprised though.
