My 3rd grader needs a device to run IXL and do homework.

We don't have any computer in the house I just use my work laptop.

Thinking a simple cheap desktop for the house? Chromebook?

I helped a coworker get an Asus Vivobook on sale for a little bit above $200. It had 8 gigs of ram, a solid-state drive, and I upgraded it to 24 gigs of RAM for her. All in, she paid about 250 for everything. That would certainly be enough to run IXL or anything else they would be doing at school. When I was a teacher, they had crappier computers that ran IXL easily.

Check out Discount Electronics.

They are out of Austin and basically buy PCs from companies that upgrade every few years.
They buy them cheap, fix any issues and sell with 1 year warranty.

I have bought a few kids laptops and a desktop PC from them.

Here is a PC, keyboard, mouse, and 22" monitor for $255...

Here are Laptops for about $300

You can spend more on faster systems, you can upgrade the RAM or hard drive as well.

A Windows license is $150 retail, so anything under $300 is a heck of a deal...
