How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone else on here actively playing D&D, Pathfinder, or something else?

We started playing 5E a few years ago as a family because my daughter wanted to learn. We switched to Pathfinder last year after the OGL mess, and now we've moved on to OSE and Dungeon Crawl Classics. We are really enjoying DCC. It's deadly, and it's dangerous, and the characters don't feel like superheroes. Starting as a zero level peasant is a great idea, the funnels are a blast, and the magic system is amazing.

What are yall playing, and what systems have you tried?

My recent group has played 5e for a couple of years and recently changed to Pathfinder. I enjoy it but most of the other guys find it to be overly complicated vs 5e.

I found the rules in Pathfinder actually made it less complicated in some ways, because no matter what, there was a rule for everything. I also really liked the character builds and feats. They made characters feel much more unique than 5E.

DCC gets back to old school D&D basics, with simpler characters and mechanics, no encounter balancing, etc. But the magic system is amazing, and every class has something really unique about it. I've found that it complements our group really well.

I'm not really into traditional TTRPG games, but I do play a lot of boardgames including those with RPG elements. Current best one from that genre IMO is the Elder Scrolls game by Chip Theory Games. Great thing about these type of games is that you can generally play them solo as well since the story elements are scripted and enemies run by deterministic rules for the most part. Otherwise you play as a co-op party, although some RPG adjacent boardgames in this category also have PVP/skirmish modes as well you can play (generally without the story parts though).
