How long do you want to ignore this user?

My son has a iBuyPower gaming PC. Yesterday it froze and he did a hard shut down. When he went to restart the machine it would not respond. It acts like it is not getting power. I checked the connections and everything is secure. Not sure what else to check, but wanted to see if anyone had some advice before I take it to the Geek Squad. Thanks in advance.

Are you getting any blinky lights on the motherboard when plugged in or attempting to boot? If not, it's possible the power supply took a crap. You could buy one, try it out and return it if that's not the problem. Or find a spare to swap it out. Just take pictures of the connections because they can be intimidating if you don't know what you're doing.

I changed the power cord last night and that did not fix the problem. Definitely need to take is somewhere. You named a few places. Anyone that you recommend over the other. Brazos Valley Computers?

I don't use any since i typically just fiz myself. I know some that really like brazos valley next to chilli's. 12th man would require going on campus. Another option would be avinext, think mainly for businesses but know the people there are competent.

It's really not a difficult task to swap out a power supply. You can probably search Amazon or eBay for the make/model to get a replacement and then it is just four screws, disconnect the cables and reconnect them and turn it on. Small chance it is the motherboard but as UMBK said it's most likely as simple as a swapped power supply.

Here ya go:

If the power supply is modular replace all the cables that go to the components with the ones that come with the new power supply. Never reuse modular cables with a different psu bc they are not always pinned the same even if they fit the ports correctly even when using a power supply from the same company.

I really only deal with Dell so I have never run into this but that sounds like solid advice.

This cannot be stated enough. DO NOT reuse PSU cables with a different PSU. Use what the new one comes with.

I saw a video of a new PSU that was the same brand AND model of what it was replacing and they had different pinouts.

lol no they fail all the time. That's not what I was saying. The power supplies have built in cables, not modular is what I meant.
