"I am an Army veteran with a Top Secret/SCI (Secret Compartmented Information) clearance that worked in the 10th SFG (Special Forces Group) Military Intelligence (S2) SCIF (Secret Compartmented Information Facility) for 5 years 32 weeks. I have a Sec+, GSEC, GFACT, GISF and GCIH Certification. I am looking for remote, online work, or, at minimum, a paid internship position in Cyber Security (also online) until I am able to move to the United States. I am currently living in Indonesia due to my Indonesian wife whom I married and now have one child with and another on the way and am awaiting a spousal visa from the United States for her. The process time for the visa as of today is 20 months and I am trying to find a way to gain income until my wife's visa is approved before moving back to the United States. I am simply trying to avoid living separately from my family by working in the United States and having my pregnant wife and child live in Indonesia for 20 months.

I also want to emphasize that I have a passion and desire to pursue Cyber Security and IT since 2012. I am in the process of getting an undergraduate in Cyber Security which I will finish by the end of the year as a full time student, though I am very flexible with how much school I can do if I find work."

Keep in mind the tech job market right now is horrible. He may get his visa before a job or even a single interview.

Also, there is a problem right now with North Koreans trying to pass themselves off as US workers. Given that there is a foreign asian address and number listed this may set off any number of red flags that would get him ignored - especially in crypto and security.

Lastly - listing stuff like office and google docs under "software" is probably not a good look for a technical job.

Otherwise best of luck!

I just separated from the Army with similar set of experience and certifications in January. I thought I could get a remote online job and was mistaken. There fewer jobs than last year, and remote work opportunities are even harder to find. I was very lucky to get a job here at A&M in College Station working where my military experience is relevant, but that was my only offer of three interviews and ~ 200 job applications.

If your son is looking to leverage his clearance (which it seems like he is because you highlighted it), then he is best off giving up on remote work, seeing where the cleared IT administrator opportunities are and applying to jobs in those places. The market is just not the same as it was one or two years ago, where remote opportunities were in abundance.

BreakLine is a hiring firm that helps veterans and minorities get jobs in tech. I was accepted in their program, and they work hard to help their clients find a job, but almost all the opportunities were in California or DC and I was not willing to move to those places.

I wish I had better news. Good luck to your son.

Can help if he would be willing to relocate to San Antonio after the visa issues are resolved.

Also, a tech guy should be smarter than putting his personal email and Whatsapp on an open forum on the Internet.

Being in Indonesia is going to be a non-starter for a lot of companies. Especially if the job requires a clearance.

And with TS/SCI, military experience, and those certs I would DEFINITELY be looking at defense contractors.

He has a clearance, easiest route is government work. There are some private cyber companies with hybrid jobs that also require a clearance to work periodically in government facilities. However, unlikely they would move a resume forward while applicant is residing overseas.

Will add that he should definitely work on his resume. Some of it reads like answers to a quiz asking to list things IT related.

For instance, just say "networking experience," no need to list routers, switches, etc.

I agree with your assessment on the resume.

It doesn't do a good job of expressing either his skill level or experience. It is definitely understated.

I agree with you so I believe I need to communicate the expectations of this post. I am not looking for a clearance or defense occupation at this time as it would be impossible. I am looking for an IT job that can pay as little as $3000 per month until my wife is able to move to the US. Having a clearance is mostly to indicate that I am individual that can be trusted with IP, PII, and other sensitive information. I can work for much, much less then others with similar experience since the cost of living in Indonesia is incredibly affordable.

I also will attest that Malfusion is my son Peter B. And that he lives in Indonesia with his wife and my 4th very precious and precocious granddaughter.

I have been posting on Texags for nearly 30 years now. The point being he is not a North Korean scammer. LOL

Furthermore, though I may be accused of having the bias of a dad, I kind of know Pete pretty well, and there are few things about him that kind of set him apart from your normal nerd IT guy.

His ability to work and perform under pressure is elite, He rises to the occasion, keeps his cool and performs. He has always been that way whether it be on the football field or on the battle field of cyber space. His Army commendation awards pretty much are for that. He is problem solver and has different sort of mind then my other three kids, that's for sure.

Seems like he has a skill set that could be used on Upwork/fiverr to bring in some freelance income during the search.
