Last built her a computer in 2017 with a Ryzen 5, and it's not going to be supported with windows 11.

I hate to be overkill but I want to make sure she is future proof so part of me was thinking of going with an ultra i7, MSI z890 motherboard however I don't want to be too extreme.

All she will do is browse the internet and Microsoft suite.

I looked at i7 and lga 1700 motherboard architecture however that would run me like $500, while the ultra i7 option would run $681.

Thoughts?

With what Windows 11 24H2 did to my laptop, I'm not sure whether I'd make running that OS a priority

How about a Ryzen 5 7500F/7600/7600X build? Great price point for those, and it's an AM5 socket, so you'll have the option to upgrade in the future.

I got a newegg combo a few months ago, Ryzen 7600X, motherboard, 32gb RAM, and a 1TB nvme for like $330

The price to performance of the 7000 series is just really tough to beat right now

If you're rebuilding just for the sake of rebuilding and there are "compatibility" issues with Win11, try using a autounattend.xml file to bypass the checks.

How concerned should I be with the AM5 support ending in 2027?

AMD's next gen Ryzen cpus that won't even be released until 2026-2027 will still be on AM5. I wouldn't be too worried about it in 2025.
