We're being asked to implement a CMDB, and I'm looking for any suggestions people on here might have worked with.

Primary use cases:
Asset inventory
Software inventory on assets
Dependency mapping

We're primarily in AWS, but have several small datacenter footprints from acquisitions. We also have Tanium, so I'm including ServiceNow on the list of things to evaluate.

My biggest concern is performing continuous agentless discovery.

This comes up every few years, it costs too much, so an opensource solution is deployed that requires more time to keep it updated and managed than we really have to spend. We actually have budget this time around, so I'm hopinh we can get something to stick.

We use ServiceNow. I'm not on the admin side of it, but pretty much all our automated processes go through it. Need a new server? Click here, select the sizes, regions, purpose, software it's running, etc, and it builds it in AWS and populates ServiceNow.

It's also our change management, KB store and user ticketing system if you have other groups that want to hop on board.

Solarwinds has one too, I haven't used that one but they did a quick pitch of it last time we were renewing them. The Solarwinds dashboards they had looked a LOT better than what comes out of ServiceNow.

ServiceNow is a solid choice but has separate modules for CMDB, SAM, and HAM. Pricey but does a good job.

We use ServiceNow as an ITSM, but we use Manage Engine Asset Explorer (we have their whole suite) for CMDB. The best way I've heard it described is "80% of a product at 50% of the price". It's more asset manager than CMDB, but it gets the job done.
