I just got an upgrade from Frontier Communications, and I had to get a new modem/router - Eero Pro 7. My ipad, iphone, work laptop, and all smart devices will connect without an issue. However, it won't connect with my personal desktop. It recognizes it as an option, but it won't connect when i enter the password. It says no connection available.

I called Frontier and Eero support. Frontier said my PC won't work with 5GHZ, only 2.4 GHZ. I called Eero. They had me turn off 5GHZ temporarily on their app along with turning on Legacy Mode. It works then, but my speeds are a lot worse than my old modem/router.

I guess i am confused when they say my PC won't work with 5GHZ. I look up my network adaptor and it looks like it should handle 5GHZ.

Any thoughts?

I bought a new network card for my desktop to get wifi-6 gigatbit speeds. You may need to do the same.

I have older eero and they have been pushing about one update a week lately, so make sure its current. I would turn 5gig back on. I don't know what legacy mode entails, but i suspect a mismatched wpa setting. I would try setting things to wpa3 transitional if supported, or wpa2 personal aes if not. Also on windows there are sometimes extra driver updates available. Or you can use device manager to check for driver updates for your Ethernet card.

I use a TP Link AP for WiFi, and have a common SSID since it has band steering. However there have been a few times where I had to turn that off and create separate SSID's, connect, and then re-enable it. Everything works as it should after that. I'm not sure if it's the AP or the device's fault.

Any chance you can hardwire with an Ethernet cable? We recently got 1GB fiber optic service and I bought a new router. My PC network card would only do 2.4 MHz so I just ran a high speed Ethernet cable to it and didn't worry about WiFi. But my router is only a few feet from the PC.

If you can see the 5Ghz SSID and can connect to it, then your PC supports 5Ghz.

One issue we've encountered recently with a few providers and their modems is that the built-in modem/router wireless antennas for 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz are both broadcasting on the same channel. That can cause some interference if the modem/router isn't doing some kind of channel select.

Another issue we've seen is one band handing out a different IP scheme than the other, which would cause your PC to connect but not have internet. Or, we've seen two different bands assign the same IP scheme but both bands handing out duplicate IP addresses, causing an IP conflict. This also prevents your PC from accessing the internet, though it may be connected to the wireless network.
