Son's Dell Laptop Won't Turn On

My son's Inspiron laptop will try to turn on for 1-2sec and then turn off when plugged in. It is 7 years old. If the battery is removed and it is plugged in it works fine. Does that mean the battery is faulted/bad and if I replace the battery it will be OK? Thanks in advance!

I've had a similar issue with an HP laptop in the past. New battery fixed it.

Yes, if you're able to replace the battery it'll be fine.

Had the exact same issue a few years ago. Yes, the battery was bad and a new one fixed it.

Thanks all. I just ordered a new Dell battery and some thermal paste. Hopefully we'll get it working again.

Oh, yeah, I am causing confusion with that. I pulled the heatsinks as well because I decided to clean and re-thermal paste them since it's so old. Should have mentioned that. LOL

Ah gotcha, just making sure your battery didn't get upsold with some thermal paste
