I am replacing some very old Sony surround speakers. They did their job!

The following is the need...

My living room is setup with an 86" over the mantle of the fireplace. Two bookshelves on each side.

  • Front Speakers - I am thinking bookshelf speakers. In wall would be too far back of the front of the bookshelf, in my opinion.
  • Rear Speakers -These are located about 9' off the ground and are presently wall mount, small satellites. I am thinking in-wall with adjustable tweeter.
  • Center Speaker - This may be problematic. The bottom of my tv is presently 3.5" above the mantle. I think I can adjust the bracket and get it to 4". Any additional will require a remounting of the tv. Also, I think the rib would not like a massive, large center speaker. Therefore, a slim, low-profile would be nice.
I do not need a subwoofer. I have a really nice one that was given to me.

What do you recommend? I am going to place the budget at $1,000 for all five. I know that it might be low, but is it possible to get something nice, lasting another 30 years?

ELAC Debut 2.0 Series (Value + Performance)

Front L/R: ELAC Debut 2.0 B6.2 Bookshelf Speakers ~$350/pair.

Warm, dynamic, and punchy. These will carry both music and movies well.

Center: ELAC Debut 2.0 C5.2 Center ~$280.

Only 7.5 tall, but may still be too chunky for your clearance.

Alternate: ELAC Debut 2.0 C6.2 Slim (5.7 tall, ~$280) may squeeze under if you tweak mount.

Rears: Polk RC85i (in-wall with aimable tweeters) ~$180/pair.

Total: ~$810. Solid tonal match, good dynamics, neutral sound.

I have a friend helping who sells audio equipment. He has a pretty solid Martin Logan setup for front 3 and working on somethibg for the rears. He has some reduced priced stuff at about 50%. I will mention the brand you referenced. Thanks.

Martin Logan's at 50% price would be hard to beat.

Thanks for the help. I have locked in on...

Front - Martin Logan Motion 4i

Center - Martin Logan Motion 6i

Rear - Elura S6.5 In-Wall

$1,455 at Amazon

$600 from friend salesman!

I will need to raise the tv. Not a bad thing. I needed tor rework some electrical outlets that are exposed. I will raise them behind the tv, raise the bracket, and remount. Thankfully, I have two strong teenage boys to help with the big tv.

You can always skip the center channel completely and just use a "phantom" center. If you're primary watching position is directly in front of the TV it really won't effect your sound and save you a ton of hassle.
