Has anyone checked into this? Pros and cons?

Looks like $500-700 up front to buy the backup battery, then a cheaper electricity rate for 3 years.

They recool some of their costs by selling power off of your battery during high demand/low supply times.

What are the pitfalls here? Will my battery actually have power on it when I need it? What else am I missing?

Cheaper than current rates? For Houston, their 3 year rate is 8.5 cents. 30 seconds on power to choose shows me I can get a 3 year rate at 8.2 cents. If willing to play the lower term game I can get 12 months at 7.4 cents or 3 months at 4.1 cents.

A couple other things you're missing. You aren't buying the battery. The upfront cost is just an install cost. And it's $700 or $1k, depending on the size/number of batteries.

Then you have a monthly subscription/service fee. $19 or $29 / month (again dependent on size/number of batteries) for the entire time you have the battery.

Finally, if you choose to not renew or proceed with them, whenever that may be, you have a $500 removal fee. Same if you move and the new owners don't want the service.
