Looking at laptops for my daughter who matriculates into Engineering in the fall of 2026.

We use Macs. But I see you have to use parallels for some engineering applications. I've used parallels at work for some apps that were only windows based and it was ok...though it was just another program that I had to manage and could sometimes be finicky.

Any experience with a MacBook for TAMU engineering students? Anything to be leery of?

I figured I would spare no expense and get one of the newer more powerful models from 12thMan Technology.

Thousands of engineering students have gotten through TAMU just fine on Macs.

Price shop around, 12th man may not have the best prices (they almost always don't). Your kid will qualify for a student discount from Apple direct once she gets her .tamu email setup.

Congrats to her, btw!

Also with the virtual desktop you can get by without a Windows Machine. Its not as convenient as running on your own machine but it works. She most likely wont need to worry about it and do 100% of what she needs to do locally on her Mac.
