A newly discovered exoplanet is rewriting the rules of what planets can be. Orbiting a city-sized neutron star, this Jupiter-mass world has a bizarre carbon-rich atmosphere filled with soot clouds and possibly diamonds at its core. Its extreme gravity stretches it into a lemon shape, and it completes a full orbit in under eight hours. Scientists are stunned no known theory explains how such a planet could exist.

Fascinating! Obviously the fact that it orbits a neutron star is a big factor in its strangeness. I suspect there are tons more planets like it we haven't discovered.

Regardless of the weirdness I'll always bet that there's weirder out there based on sheer probability of numbers in a universe this size.

Obviously I'm waiting patiently for the planet that rains ethanol and is populated exclusively by large breasted Amazonian humanoid female analogues.

Nothing discovered with breasts, large or small, so far, alas. But Titan may have methane and ethane rain, since it appears that it has lakes, rivers, and atmospheric haze comprised of those molecules. Enceladus, Hyperion, Saturn, and Jupiter probably have large amounts of hydrocarbons. Even Mars may have some.

No one is certain how those molecules got there, although there is no shortage of theories. I used to work with a lot of oil and gas folks who were very intrigued with the existence of hydrocarbons outside of Earth and the implications that might have for Earth hydrocarbons. One of them noted to me that Earth reservoirs do recharge, albeit slowly.

I dunno. I still giggle like a middle school kid when I hear jokes about Uranus

One of science's greatest achievements was the naming of that planet.

Ah, you mean Eroticon 6, the homeworld of Eccentrica Gallumbits.
