Surprised this hasn't received more publicity. Looking forward to serious efforts to utilize the moon as a forward base of operations for extra planetary resource acquisition and exploration. I think this will be the first step for the USA in the modern era.

I am a space guy through and through. REALLY want this to be successful, but pessimistic with NASA and government space exploration overall right now. Afraid it's going to be delayed ad nauseam, vs outright failure.

Did get to tour one of the groups designing the new lunar rover recently, that was really cool.

You may want to cross post this to the Space thread on F16. It's pretty active and gets updated fairly frequently.

Most importantly, it's a fairly non-partisan thread. A true miracle on that board!

Only thread worth a damn on that board.

I have a coworker that 100% believe we have never been to the moon. Part of me hopes they can get some decent photographs of old Apollo landing sites where equipment was left behind but not sure that would do anything to convince them.

There are already photographs. Both China and Russia have confirmed (along with Europe and India). If they don't believe by now, they never will.

The number of people under 30 that think we never landed on the moon has gone from kind of funny and something to make fun of them about to very worrisome. An entire generation has lost their minds.

I think it is something that should studied right along with mass COVID hysteria.

One of the many negative consequences of the internet and more specifically social media.

I can somewhat understand why younger people don't believe it. It's so far in the past that it almost seems unreal and does not seem plausible when you factor today's tech. The younger generations have only ever known sophisticated, digital technology so telling them that we put people on a planetary body that is 250k miles away in space using analog technology almost seems mythological to them. It's hard to fathom what is/was possible when you've only ever known the Digital Age.

Space exploration has been damn near in the Dark Ages since the Apollo program from a manned exploration standpoint. To them, that's ancient Rome and academic at this point.

My nephews can't even mentally process that I didn't have a mobile phone in college. It's simply not reality to them.

I don't believe they deny it because they are spending any brainpower trying to determine what technology was or was not available during the Apollo program for a successful mission. They deny it because it is cool and acceptable to dissent to otherwise accepted facts and social media influencers make it 100x worse.

The decision on whether to roll SLS out to the pad is expected Sunday or Monday.

It's not about believing we didn't go to the moon. Rather, it's the belief that our government would blatantly lie to us.
