I just found a bunch of ungraded comic books (they are in perfect shape in sleeves).

Is there a consignment shop that can grade an sell them near Austin or SA? I don't know squat about comic books.

Interesting find! Do you have all 12? What are the cover prices?

Looking around the internet, all 12 (ungraded) sold together as a set can go for 300.

A graded set can go from anywhere between 500-3000.

Pretty sure you have to physically mail in the comics to the certified graders, but maybe CGC comes to Texas conventions and can grade during the event.

How did you come by these?

The were in a box on a shelf. I think there were my step-brothers? How much does it cost to get graded per comic?

There are a bunch of Sandman, The Books of Magic, The Puma Blues, V for vendetta, and Elktra 1-4. I have 1-12 Watchmen and another 1-10. $1.50 86'/87' mint.

What would you want for the 1-12 set as-is?

I want to get them graded. I have no idea what they are worth. I've seen $150 to 3K.

Check out CGC for grading. You have to package them yourself and mail them to their location in Sarasota. Looks like its about 25/book to get graded before shipping.

Grading may be futile.

Don't get them graded unless you know how to properly evaluate. If you get a bunch of 7s and 8s back, you're throwing money away.

Boy, that seems risky.

It seems like collectibles are only worth "that amount" to the one guy in the world willing to pay that price. The Watchmen is probably a little more liquid due to its popularity. Its different than Silver coinis or gold where the price is current every day, and there are numerous storefronts paying that price regularly.

I wish that I'd have picked out a few toys or comics from back in the day (late 70s / early 80s) and bought two of them. One to use, and the other to hoard for 50 years as an investment. I may not get $5,000 for an upopened original Kenner Luke Skywalker action figure, but I know I could get $500, which is about 3 times what the same money would be worth if it was invested in the stock market at that time.
