Please help me decide thank you. This would be my first Mac if I went that direction. Just general business/personal use.

If money is no concern, get the mac.

Thanks. That seems to be the consensus.

Why a new Pro? Do you need anything the Pro can do that the non pro line cant do? You can get a M1 Air for dirt cheap now (New Open Box - $305) and it will work perfect for non gaming use.

Thanks I guess I just want something that's future proof and will last me a long time. I've had my current laptop (XPS) for 9 years and it's been great.

I agree, even if you want a new laptop the M4 Air can probably do everything you need (unless you are video editing or coding) and you could get a 15" if you wanted a larger screen over the 13". But Amazon has the 15" M4 air for less than a grand and the 13" for less than $900 right now, both new.

If I was buying a new laptop right now, I would get a M4 Air (13 or 15 depending on preference).

You might want to wait a few weeks also, as Apple is about to announce new products next week.

Yes, I was going to wait and see what apple announces. So you are saying I don't need the M5 chip and 64 GB of ram?? That's no fun.

I mean, I feel like spending 5k on a bad ass laptop that I'll get a ton of use out of for a decade is pretty good deal. Maybe even write a little bit of it off. What am I missing here?

I've never understood cheaping out on a laptop that you're going to spend more time operating than your car that cost 10x as much. Spending a little more on a nice machine that will increase your productivity and comfort for years makes too much sense.

I can't do the 60Hz of a MacBook Air. It's crazy they still haven't upped it to at least 90.

I would avoid Windows moving forward, unless they completely reverse course on where they've taken the company the past 3 years or so.

Ok I think I'm going to take the plunge. How hard is it going be to get used to it for someone who's only used a PC?

There is a small learning curve on finding things in the beginning, but it is not bad. Finder is your friend. Using Stacks on the desktop was the biggest change for me, but I enjoy having less clutter now.

I bought the 13" M3 Air because it hit the sweet spot for size, weight, and performance. I do a lot of video and coding work. The Pro is thicker and heavier, with just a little better performance. The Air only has two USB-C ports which are free when charging, so go with Pro if you really need more than that.

Note that the M5 MacBook Air may be launched this week!

My laptop is on my desk, hooked up to an external monitor 90% of the time. In that situation, would you still not think the pro was worth it over the air?

I often work with a 4K plugged in with a wireless keyboard and trackpad, and it works great.
