Help Finding the Owners of an Unknown Cell Number

Reaching out for help in finding out the owners to two cell numbers that are harassing my kids and likely by fellow students.

Multiple calls/texts over the course of the last week. All outside of school hours.

One of the numbers from the calls shows up as Maybe: last name, first name of someone here in SA that I no longer associate with.

The other number does not give me a maybe prompt. I am 99% sure this is immature prank calling /texting being done by a child from a family that I had a falling out with 18-24 months ago. The other is one of this child's new buddy's friends since he tried to mudsling my son about 2 years ago.

I get it, I can and will eventually block the numbers and move on. But before that i would like to find out who it is so that I can afford the parents who are likely oblivious to all of this a courtesy that this behavior has now crossed a line.

Call from another number and ask for some random person like Shelly or Bridget. They will think it is simply a wrong number but at least you might be able to hear a voice and have some kind of a clue.

I'm for sure going to try that. Trying to find a phone that won't be tied directly back to me. Who knew I would ever need a public pay phone in 2026?

Give zero confidence to what the number "shows up as", spoofing a cell number is insanely easy.

For sure it could be spoofing. But I find it more than coincidental that the last name of the maybe number calling my son matches the last name of the kid that the unknown number is texting about.

Ex: Maybe John Doe is calling my son
Unknown number is texting my daughter asking is John Doe's son Jimmy there.

The first one is an 82 year old man in San Antonio. The second one is a 44 year old that currently lives in Colorado. My guess is they spoofed the numbers.

Your only option now is to yell at them like the chick from Tommy Boy. They don't know for sure but if you say it convincingly they will believe that you know where they live and have seen where they sleep.

Pick up the phone and say "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. I can tell you i don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you leave my kids alone now, that'll be the end of it. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

That oughtta do it.

I know my iPhone will link text messages together to generate the "maybe" guess. In other words, if a solicitor texts about trimming trees and says his name is Joe Blow, the iPhone will say "maybe Joe Blow" is calling if the same number tries to call later.

That "maybe" message may just be piecing together info from the prior text.

My wife and I have the phone numbers of the two adults of this family that the maybe number is coming from. This family has major beef with my son. So I'm very confident about who and where those calls are coming from. That maybe number has also left a butt dial like voice mail on my sons phone with the voice matching the kid that has it out for my son.

Needless to say both numbers have been blocked but they are still calling.

This has gone from just the kids harassing and you wanting to give their parents the courtesy of letting them know to "the whole family having a major beef with your son".

Nothing good is going to come out of playing detective and trying to catch some kids prank calling if the family already dislikes yours.

Block it and move on. Deal with it if it truly crosses a line that is unavoidable. Call block exists for this reason.

Once I had to carry a work phone.

Every Friday night, said phone would ring around 10:30PM and they would ask for Willie. It was annoying because it was my work phone and I'm obviously not Willie.

After 6 months of this BS, I pick up the phone and say, "Travis County Sheriff's office."

They say, "Is Willie there?" I said, "Who wants to know? I'm in possession of his phone and his other phones and we are tracking down all of his known associates."

They never called again.
