I'm looking for some advice/help. I'm just getting into fishing and don't know much concerning lure/bait selection. I fish both fresh and salt water. What should I stock my tackle box with? Thanks!

1/2 oz Rat-l-traps
Manns Baby 1-
Bandit 100 and 200 series crankbaits
3/8 oz spinnerbaits in Tandem colorado/Willow and double willow white/chart.
1/2 oz Lunker Lure Buzzbaits
3/8 oz. Storm Chug Bugs
3/0 Gamakatsu EWG worm hooks (all purpose)
Gamakatsu Finesse EWG's hooks 1/0 (wacky rig hook)
Zoom Horny Toads or Ribbit Frogs
Yamamoto Senkos or imitation stick baits 5" in Watermelon/Red Flake and similar
Zoom Trick Worms in watermelon and white/pink/limetruese
Shakey Heads in size 1/0 or 2/0, I prefer the push on to the screw in
2/0 Straight shank catfish hooks
size 10 Mustad cricket hooks (panfish)
Styrofoam bobbers, smallest you can get and then a little larger for catfish (do NOT get clip ons, get the ones you thread the line through and pin with a stopper)
Variety pack split shot
1/32 oz jigheads
1.5" Panfish assassins (straight tail) in a shad color
Gulp earthworms (panfish)
Catfish Charlie's Stinkbait in Blood/Liver
1/0 or 2/0 Jigheads
Jar of Gulp Shrimp

that should do it for most species of freshwater fish and saltwater. Most of the lures will pull double duty. The shallow cranks and traps work well in salt water too.

What golfer said and a few white 1/4oz double willow spinners with gold/silver double willow blades. Pop r in perch and baby bass colors and silver black. Culprit softs in tomato and craw and tiny torpedo in black/ silver and blue/silver.

That's more f*c*ed up than a ni**as tackle box

i personally like the rebel pop-r..it has always been a favorite everywhere

I was trying to stay generic while adding specific lures in case that is what the OP wanted...

really every lure in my list represents a class of lures that every angler should have if bass fishing and offshore fishing.

I guess I should have added popping corks if you're fishing inshore too.

My personal tacklebox doesn't contain many lures outside of that list...

They are a pretty durable lure. For several years Storm made an exact replica when Brown was still selling his the original way. I think Storm's came out as a Cork....then I believe it switched to a Wild Eye something. I can't find them in their current catalog. They were about half the price and if you removed the hooks I don't believe you could tell the difference. Kalin & Tsunami also make a knock off but I haven't ever looked at them. I also haven't seen one of the Corky's since Mirrolure bought them.

They are a very good lure for fishing an area like Baffin if you know where you are and how to work the lure. if you are going to chunk and wind then no...it's much slower fishing.

actually, I have transitioned to the Bomber cork...much more durable and tuff.

By the way, I absolutely HATE throwing a cork...and only do it in tournaments when I have to.

But, it DOES catch a helluva lotta fish!

Back in my early years I used a popping cork....aka Mansfield Mauler. I started building my own rods so I could cast a little farther. I was so successful at the rod building I had to give up using live shrimp under a cork.......they were dying during the cast.

Start simple! You've got to learn how, when and where to fish each new type of lure you add to your box, so no sense in overloading from the start. First, you need at least 2 boxes: Fresh and Salt.

Just want to give a bump to this thread. Its a really good one, with good info in it. Helpful to me as well. Keep the comments and suggestions coming! I put it on the front page of the FAQ thread as well. And my one contribution...every tackle box needs a good set of needle-nose pliers.

One must include 1 can of Potted Meat Product or Vienna Sausages.
