State Senator Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, has authored and filed a senate bill, SB 354, in the 82nd Legislature Regular Session that, if passed into law, would allow CHLs to carry on campuses of both public and private institutions of higher education.

It's seemingly obvious this isn't going to go away, year after year, until it is accepted as law. Let's get it passed this time!

I just called his Austin office to praise him for the introduction of this bill. They added me to the list of people willing to testify before the senate regarding this bill and will contact me once its through committee.

I am not a constituent of Senator Wentworth (I'm in BCS), but the staff member was appreciative of my support, and asked that I contact my senator (Ogden) today and let him know that I support this bill. I then contacted Senator Ogden's office and voiced my support for SB 354.

I believe Sen Ogden voted against the bill the last session, so he needs convincing.

Just wrote to Senator Judith Zaffirini in District 21. Everyone needs to be writing her as well. In the past legislative session she Chaired the Senate committee on Higher Education.

She also voted no.

At the very least, they need the parking lot bill.

Everyone needs to work on Ogden.

IMPORTANT- Sen Dan Patrick (R- Houston) is 100% in favor and would like to hear the statewide support from college students to bolster the PRO-argument and counter the pablum we will hear from the scared college age wimps that the news media will hunt out and stick cameras and mics in their faces while they tear up all doe faced and express horror and outrage at the idea of a GUN in their little college utopias !
Organize and be active. Get your friends active and express your VOCAL support. It will be very close but we can get it done in this session.

if this passes, can the schools deny carrying per school policy?

They will be able to impose some restrictions but it's limited to places like labs where there are restricted access already and such. Of course stadiums and such are already restricted. But no one knows what the final version will be. I imagine there will be some bones thrown to the college admins allowing them some control.
