How are your hummingbird numbers this year? This year is way down for me. I have 3 feeders and I have not yet seen two hummers at a time yet. Usually there are at least 3 or 4 who visit with one standing watch to divebomb the others as they arrive. Since I've only seen one, I'm wondering if he's the only one who made it back this year.

We had a few a month ago but they are long gone now in BCS. I think the migration has passed.

Normal, 8-10 probably. Hard to tell, as a couple of them are punks and like to run the others off.

La Vernia area, ours seem to be up from later year given how often we are having to fill the feeders.

Joining you in the Arky Ozarks in a couple weeks. Can't wait to see some fireflies……haven't seen one since I was around 10

At my parents place in Angel Fire and they're way down here. Usually 20 +, but there are only a couple.

Lago Vista. We have seen way more than in previous years. Probably due to our recent garden doing well.

Zero feeders out west of Austin. Have around three each day hard on the raspberry salvia greggii in my front yard.

I've been wondering if others were seeing the same thing. Outside Palestine. Way down - normally they are starting to ramp up by now to big swarms by the week of August 20-ish. I think we have one, maybe 2.

I've got the typical numbers in NW Austin. No feeders just lots of pollinator plants.

I have one feeder and barely any visitors. I'm in CS. I've been thinking of putting it away until fall, but every time I decide to do that I get a lone visitor and leave it out in case he comes back.

NW Austin with two feeders and we've seen our typical half dozen or so hummers this year. Does seem like less activity from them overall though so maybe they're finding other sources of nectar?

One thing I've done is moved one of my feeders a little more in the shade close to the house. So close that I can't really see it so not sure how much they're visiting that feeder. Other is in full sun and I've thought about dropping a cube or two of ice in that one when I get home from work. Haven't yet because not sure how great of an idea it really is but that nectar has to be damn hot for them....

How often are y'all refreshing your nectar? I change ours every 3 days if it lasts that long. I use a couple of 8oz feeders rather than one large feeder.

Refill / change out about that frequently. Whether empty or not the nectar gets funky pretty quickly this time of year.

I'm up to 3 now. Never 3 sitting on feeders. But maybe 1 feeding and one chasing another right past 2 completely available feeders. Little dumbazzes!

There is just a lot more natural food for them this year. We haven't had a summer like this in a looooong time.

Everybody I know has been down quite a bit, but we have about the same number we did last year at this time here in Bastrop. Right now we have 3-4 coming to our feeders and gardens (bat faced cuphea is the favorite). The difference from last year is that all of the ones we have right now are black-chinned, not ruby throated. Early this year and last year we had a mix, but the ruby-throateds have disappeared in the last month or so. Will be interesting to see how the numbers build over the next month. Last year by early September, we routinely had 10+ coming to 4 feeders.

Numbers are down at our place in Aggieland. We normally have to refill feeders but right now I'm pouring out and refreshing the feeder for just 2 that have been regulars. Had a third show up within the last week. Audobon's migration tracker says a couple weeks and we'll see more movement. Hope so, I'm missing the little guys!
