TPWD sent out emails this year that dove numbers were the highest ever recorded I've gotten tons of bad reports from Carrizo springs and pearsall from south zone opener and in central Texas the dove numbers haven't been close to what they were the last couple of years - I'm shocked because I'm having problems finding birds in bell and dimmit counties in places that have produced in the past - most folks I've talked to haven't been shooting limits this year in places that have been historically good

We had the best year ever last year at our ranch in Atascosa. It's mediocre so far this year. But I think it will get better with the next cold front.

We crushed em in Haskell opening weekend. My buddies crushed them again last weekend and report that the birds are still there

Hammered them on the east side of San Antonio on 9-1.

I think it's really hard to gauge numbers anecdotally, it can be all over the place.

I hunt in central texas, as does most of the people I know and talk to, and it seems like the last couple of years have been better for us, but still not as good as it was years ago. But I'm sure you can find folks who are tearing them up, I think it really matters on your exact location. Two different people separated by 250 yards may have completely different seasons, just gotta be in the right spot.

My friend who owns a hunting lodge 180 miles south of the border said the whitewings showed up last week thicker than he can remember in that past. He has been running hunts since the mid 80s. Migration?

I'm not a biologist by any means but the 4-5 days of north wind around the Sept. 7 cool front pushed some birds south out of Texas, IMHO. Especially WW.

The hunts it wasn't downpouring opening weekend we limited out. Morning of 9/2 people limited out in the AM (I didn't hunt) and I limited out that evening on an afternoon hunt.

I've always been of the opinion that the doves didn't fly away with the breeze, they had the hell shot out of them & were carried away in ice chests.

Best opening weekend I have seen in awhile in Karnes County. Plenty of white wing as well which we have not seen in a few years.

I had actually stopped going in September since it was so bad and hot.

I hunted at my grandparents' place in Brown County, and everyone got their limit.

Portions of South Texas have a lot of rain as of late and there is water standing everywhere, so that may have come into play on opening weekend.
