Something strange is happening in College Station, and no, it's not the lack of wins with our unlimited NIL budget. What's up with all these seagulls? Anyone know why they are so far inland? Sorry for the poor photos. I think they followed me home after we had a few cold ones in matagorda.

As mentioned, you can see them almost anywhere. We had a ton of them out in Abilene; they will do well anywhere there is water. You can also find them at dumps.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

We have them here in central CO, too. Same with pelicans. Still crazy to see after all these years.

They are just following the ancient oceans that their ancestors followed millions of years ago …..

Likely on their way north up to Canada.

I know white pelicans summer up in Canada. Have even seen them in North Dakota.

April is a major northern bird migration month. Something like 2/3 rds of north-bound birds come through Texas each spring.

ETA, there was a post here a few years ago about a crapload of seagulls migrating through Texas in October. Low flyers, we had several volleys over a weekend down at the ranch in Duval Co. at the time.

That is what it is. Migrating gulls. Funny most people don't have a clue.

Saw them over my house in south CS around the same time. Could hear them from a long ways. Looked to be coming from Somerville direction.

They are everywhere @ Lake Buchanan in the spring. Didn't realize the went upstream when they were done, always thought they went back to the coast. Not a fisherman, I don't remember everseeing them in the fall.

Their migration coincides with Spring turkey season in Texas. I frequently see & hear them this time of year while stumbling through the turkey woods. Always a pleasant surprise, makes me stop & gawk. Kinda like the Sandhill migration in fall.

I have seen them on the Missouri River outside of Williston, ND.

They must've gotten into all the bundles of cocaine that washed up on the beaches of Galveston this weekend and gotten a sudden burst of energy.

I can't tell you how many fish Franklin's gulls have helped me catch over the years. Their northerly migration usually coincides with the shad spawn. And they have better eyes than I do.

Fun Fact:

California gulls are the state bird of Utah because a big group of them came and saved the Mormons from a plague of locusts. Have you seen a lot of locusts around? Guys in white dress shirt riding bicycles?

The Sandhill migration can mesmerize me for hours if I'm not careful. My wife usually has to slap me upside the head a few times to get back to work!

We saw some last year here at our place in the Ozarks. I just assumed they followed us here when we moved from Harper…..because my wife always throws bread crumbs at them when we fished at the coast.
