Might be a long shot, but will be at Anna Maria Island in a couple of weeks and would like to fish offshore (preferably inland/bay)….any recommendations? I'm a flatlander from the panhandle so not well versed in what we should fish for - just want to catch fish.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Went a few years back. Sorry, don't remember who we went with but I wouldn't recommend him anyways.

We stayed close and caught Mangrove Snapper. Then went over to the mangroves and caught a few small Snook.

What I would recommend is taking your catch to The Waterfont Restaurant and letting them cook it for you. Really good. The Doctor's Office is a cool bar worth going to also. Lovely little town

We've been to Anna Maria many times - it's a great place. I hope it's recovering well from the hurricane. Rent a bike, enjoy your time there. It's so peaceful.

We've used a couple of the AMI charters (and have enjoyed them), but none have compared to Captain Frank Hutchko with Skirt Chaser Charters out of St. Pete Beach (just a short drive from AMI).

OP...

You mention you're headed to Anna Maria Island for vacation. Are you staying in the City of Anna Maria (on the north end of the island), Holmes Beach (in the central area of the island), or Bradenton Beach (in the southern area of the island)?

As zephyr88 said, the island got slammed last year by two hurricanes, Helene and Milton. The southern area (Bradenton Beach) took the brunt of it, but even the northern tip (City of Anna Maria) was hit hard. We drove through the island a couple of weeks ago. Much of it is returning to normal, but it's pretty obvious the area got hit.

The building at the end of the City of Anna Maria pier on the northern tip of the island is still standing, but the pier itself is heavily damaged. Also, a local favorite, the Rod 'n Reel restaurant (also on another pier just west of the other pier), is gone. It survived Helene but was taken out by Milton.

You're heading down at a great time to go tarpon fishing. It's big deal in late spring/early summer. When you are standing on the northern tip of the island one can see many boats to the northwest as that's where they're catching tarpon.

Also, the beaches facing the Gulf is where loggerhead turtles lay their eggs (beginning in May).

I'm pretty certain you'll be able to get some names from some of the locals. I'll see from my contacts if I can dig up a name as well.

Yes - we are staying between Pine Street and Bean Point (did this last April). We have been watching the recovery/rebuild and it will be fine for our plans - beach, pool, food.

Our rental of choice was on Chilson, just a bit south of Pine. It was within walking distance of a number of great restaurants (and ice cream shops). We opted to go to the mountains this year instead of the beach - mainly due to the hurricane destruction - so I'm glad to hear it's coming back together.

Finally found it...

Last trip in 2023, weeks took a trip with Seafood Charters.
Captain Keith McGlade

Seafood Charters

And yes, I'd recommend his service.

He's a good family man and a good captain.

Spent the morning with Captain Colby Gregory. Had us on snook and trout all morning - couldn't get the reds to bite. Great guy and worked his tail off for us.
