16 KWH in a month? That's about the consumption of two 60 watt lightbulbs running 4.5 hours a day.

That looks like a bill for a single light in a tack room at a barn. Adjusted for inflation that's 56 cents/kwh in 2025 money, electricity costing that much might start the revolution today.

He was used up here on the South Plains for whatever the company was that became Xcel, as well as lots of others around the world.UTExan said:

As a point of reference, my first job was as a stock boy at the local FW Woolworth store in 1973 making minimum wage which at that time was $1.25 per hour.
