Newish to raising goats. Any recs on brand/type dewormer I should get them on? Also, can I pick it up at a tractor supply or similar place?
I'm in east Tx the goats ,about a month ago, got some chickens in their pens that now share the area. It's about 3/4 of an acre. Lots of grass over 4" tall. No signs of worms or other issues at this point.

My wife handles this for us, but I think we rotate between two or three different ones. I think valbazen is one.
We also use pumpkin for the pregnant ones; she says it's a natural dewormer.

If any of this is wrong or questionable, someone will be along soon enough to set us straight.

Is this for show animals or just to have around?

These goats are just pets, not show animals.

We used to deworm our goats about mid spring when the fresh new grass got high. That's when they would pick up the parasites. We used a dedicated medicated pellet wormer that we mixed with their normal feed.
It would tell you on the bag how much to feed per the number of animals you had.
We also used it once a year to worm our deer and exotics.
Got it at our local feed store. Don't remember the brand.

Rotating between Cydectin and Safegaurd should do the trick.

Just asked my wife,
Use Valbazen according to the directions. Then the next time use Safeguard but triple the amount directed and use for five days. Looks like we typically rotate between these.
She follows up with probios the next day.
I think all this is available at TSC.

There's also ivermectin.

I use Prohibit, levamisole hydrochloride, in an oral drench. Could be labeled LevaMed at some sources.

I buy a 52 gram bag of the powder and usually weigh out a fourth of the package to mix with a fourth of the water stated in the directions for"concentrated" solution.

2 cc of that mixed solution per 50 lb of body weight for sheep.
3 mg per 50 lb body weight for goats.

I have drenched with both prohibit and with cydectin at the same time, a double whammy so to speak, if I felt the animal was really needing it.

This is probably the easiest answer. They are two different types of wormers so you should catch everything. The risk, though minimal, is the animals don't need the wormer, you give it, and eventually they form a resistance to the drug.

The real correct answer is to test the goats. That will tell you not just if you need to worm, but which type of wormer to use.

It's a couple of pets. Go with cavjock's recommendation ...
