Hey guys, looking for recommendations for a tarpon guide in Florida for 4 people some time next year. My brother and I want to take our old man on a trip to celebrate his recent retirement, and knowing he has always wanted to catch a big tarpon, this seems like it would be a lot of fun. Just getting started planning, so I don't know much about when, where, who, etc. Would be interested in combining it with another outing or two as well, if possible (bay fishing, iguana shooting, etc). Any recs? Thanks!

Depends on where you are fishing and how you will be doing it. I have fish with Tanner Severt in the Middle Keys and Glades for the last seven seasons and he is nails. Fly guide, though. You can look him up on his website - Orlando on the Fly. Great dude.

Sounds like you want the best damn tarpon guide! He might be unavailable for 3-8 years.


In all seriousness, I've fished several times with Tanner as well and highly recommend, but he won't be able to fish with 4 guests that I'm aware. But he can prob put you on someone who can if you want to fish down in the keys. Check out his website and give him a call. Fantastic guy

He was good for fly fishing (mainly smaller tarpon, bonefish, barracuda, etc. in the mangrove keys), and for anchoring up to catch large tarpon on the deeper spots.

Prime time for large tarpon run in the Keys is around April to May, but I think the smaller ones are all year.

Most of the best tarpon guides use boats big enough for 2 clients at most. You're looking at Tampa most likely for bigger boats that hold 4 people.

We went to Boca Grande over 10 yrs ago and there was a guy named Sandy that knew what he was doing . We brought 4 120+ to the boat

Captain Brock Horner has the tarpon on lock down!! Nobody spends as much time on the water as that guy.. Look him up
