I am looking to have a well dug on our place. We are just west of San Marcos.
We had a rainwater collection put in when our house was built about 6 years ago. It's nice when it's raining but the drought has had us buying water off and on for the past couple of years.
Anyone recommend someone in the area and have an idea on how much it might cost? The neighbors on both sides said their wells are only 350-450 feet.

Im in So. Tx and the water table is about half of that. I paid about 11k for mine so I would say you should be in for less than 20k. Prices have gone up in 5 years so I would hope 25k would be the ceiling if that. Shouldnt be that but it also depends on what you decide to do. Solar increases the cost alot. Big pump, small pump, etc. Good luck on your project.

I would be more interested in the permitting process. I do know that some Hill Country counties to the north of you have made it more difficult to obtain permits for drilling water wells in recent years.

Wilson and Guadalupe counties here. We were quoted $25k for 250ft and obviously more if deeper.

I paid 24k for 400' in Wilson County about 1 year ago.
It's sand and you're in rock there I'm pretty sure. Herbolds out of Seguin did mine. They probably drill in your area.

Kutscher Drilling has been the primary driller for Comal and Hays for a long time.

I see the old milk tankers turned water haulers filling up on FM 306 when dropping off the kids. You aren't alone buying water. 2 tanks on the farm are dry or unusable. Need to do a fish fry before we lose the fish in the big 2 tanks.

Do you need a big shed built or something else to provide more catch area?

Hope you get some rain soon or that the drillers aren't too backed up.
