But I would like to include one soon in my collection so I can participate in a USPSA style 1911 only match in December.

For the pistol only, so not counting $ for extra mags holster etc. What are good options out of the box at $2k or less?

Dollar for dollar, Dan Wesson 1911s are hard to beat at that price point.

Are you set on a 1911 for USPSA? Single stack doesn't have a strong following these days.

If so, as mentioned, Dan Wesson is a great brand at that price point. You could also look at Springfield's lineup, you'd be near the top of their options with that budget.

There is a USPSA 1911 only match in December in Houston near me. I have always wanted to own an 1911 and this single match is an excuse to buy one.

I could easily borrow one, but that would make too much sense

Why not just spend the 300ish bucks on a tisas / rock island 1911 and a thousand rounds of ammo?

You can learn what the gun is like then if it's truly something you'd want to fall down the rabbit hole on then spend the money on a DW.

Whatever you do, please avoid a kimber at all costs. They knowingly employed ryan bussy who is the antithesis to 2A causes.

Favorite pistol I own. Not a good competition pistol because it is 10mm single stack. Stupid accurate and wonderfully made.

Forgot to mention it's a Dan Wesson…

If theyre following the USPSA rulebook make sure you understand exactly what makes a gun single stack legal.

For example, I agree with Rally Cap that DW and Springfield are good options in your budget, but the 5" Springfield Emissary has a bull barrel, when SS requires any gun over 4.20" to use a barrel bushing and wouldnt meet the requirements.
