We just got new tile flooring in our house and I would love to finally get a cowhide rug for our "sitting area".

I was thinking about getting something lighter in color (like Brahman) , but wanted the opinions from the OB … Types of cattle (or rug) to avoid, length of hair, etc. Hoping the picture below gives you enough info on the space and colors.

I know this isn't your typical OB post, but I trust yall and I'm sure of yall have some sense of style. Flame on if you must.

I believe the majority of hides I see are from Brazil. The Round Top show is starting now with a huge selection of hides to choose from. They will seem overpriced so highly advisable to bargain.

There are always a bunch available at Canton. That might be a good option for you to see a bunch of different colors and options all at once.

Couple shops in Fredericksburg sell them at good prices. Bought mine there. Plus multiple shops on each side of the street usually have free beer for shoppers from lone star or similar. Just measure your space and go pick through them to find a color and pattern you like.

The HEB on 281 and 46 north of SA has them for sale.....who'da thought. How much foot traffic will it have and how will a hair on hide hold up to said foot traffic?

I got mine at IKEA in Houston. They had a bunch in stock. Multiple colors, all real hides. Price was fair.

I have purchased a couple from Sutherlands. They had a huge selection

I have been looking for someone who will tan a hide for us. I really want a cowhide rug with my family's brand on it.

Ya.. we have a tiger stripe bull that I have said since the day he showed up that he was going to end up in my living room. He has one or two more breeding season left and I need to get this figured out haha.

Look around on FB marketplace. If you're around DFW & want to look at a variety, go to the stock yards.

I have floors a little darker & a more gray hue (from what I can tell) & my hide is brown/white. It brings out more of the brown from the floor. Super easy to clean too.
