Howdy All, I'm looking to gain some experience AI'ing cattle. I am posting here to see if there are any ranchers (big or small) that need someone to service their cattle. Since I am just wanting get better, I am not wanting to charge for my services right now. You would just be asked to provide the materials needed.

I manage a ranch that utilizes Embryo Transfer. So I have plenty of experience around cattle and synchronization protocols. I have also attended two AI courses. I'm willing to answer any questions one may have about integrating AI into their herd, pros/cons of AI, etc.

If you have cattle and would be willing to let me get some practice in, I'd really appreciate the opportunity!

I'm located in Bryan, but willing to travel within reason!

Feel free to PM me or text/call (254) seven44-seven3zero3

Thanks, Clayton D.

What does an ampule of good semen cost these days?*

*Lord knows terminology and methods have changed since I was certified under Dr Stone in 1983
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really

It varies quite a bit depending on breed, sexed or conventional, quality of the bull, etc. Somewhere between $20 and $100. All just depends on what a person is looking for in a bull!

So I was on shift and called one of my consultants who's a neurosurgeon about a patient. He's a really smart guy, MD/PhD, grew up in an urban wealthy setting.

He's at the auto shop getting his BMW serviced when I called. And he picks up the phone and I hear him say "$500?! That's ridiculous. It's just an oz of fluid and that's what you're charging me?"

He then acknowledged my call, and asked me if I knew any liquid that was that expensive. I guess he was just venting and just expecting me to agree, but growing up in a rural agrarian area, I immediately answered "Yes, Bull Semen."

Absolute silence on the other end of the phone for about 10 seconds. Dude, didn't know what to say to that.

I've got 6 cows that I was planning on turning my bull back in with in late November/early December but have been debating on getting rid of my bull and going the ai route. If you are still wanting to practice around that time, I may take you up on it and try a herford sire to see about calving a crop of black baldies. Ill then keep my bull to cover them afterwards and see how many take. If I get a high enough take rate, it may convince me to sell the bull and just go ai from now on.

Sounds great just let me know! I just had an ultrasound done on a set of heifers I bred to a Hereford bull. Ended up hitting 80% on them. Obviously pretty happy with that rate considering it was my second set to do.

I've got a couple of show heifers I need done in November but I'm in between San Antonio and Corpus.

Just give me a shout if you need someone to do them. I can probably work something out. Idk how far you are from San Antonio but I'll be driving through there pretty regularly to go to the ranch down there.

Off topic but the irony of a surgeon griping about the seemingly exorbitant cost of something minor was not lost on me

Dang, I'd take you up on this but not ready until March. I'm going from a full time bull to a 45 day breeding period to drop calves in January. Hopefully reduce screwworm exposure.

Reach back out in March if you still need someone!

Anyone that may be interested in the future I can text/email a business card to have if that helps.

Thanks, Clayton D.

i'd suggest soliciting the show steer breeder crowd. you won't have the volume per client but i think they are paying double what you quoted below. maybe post on one of their facebook groups.
