Looking at booking something on Sam Rayburn or Steinhagen in mid-November for a group of about 15 people to go camping. Some travel trailer, some tents, adults and kids younger than 6. Everything else is booked up within a couple of hours of BCS and we would prefer to get into the piney woods compared to everything west of 35. These look like solid sites with lots of trees and not much booking traffic. I've never camped east of lake Livingston and south of Nac. Does the OB have any insight on camping out there and what it's like in Mid Nov?

Martin Dies is really nice. Mid November, might be some duck hunters around but probably pretty quiet otherwise.

Will 2nd Martin Dies State Park. We have been there many times, and it is always pretty quiet. Unless a very large group of Boy Scouts take over the place, which we have seen once. There are two units, one on each side of 190. The units are quite different from each other, but one does not stand out over the other. Take what you can get, especially if the site is on the water. Take bug repellent.

We also like Fort Parker S.P. between Mexia and Groesbeck. Small, cozy park that is usually quiet but does fill quickly at times of the year when a lot of people are out camping.

Lake Ratcliff between Lufkin and Crockett is a national forest campground that is an awesome spot and is the trailhead for 4 C trail. Boykin springs in Angelina is another good spot that has access to Rayburn close by.

Second for Ratcliffe, spent many a weekend out there when I was at SFA. Nice park and always pretty quiet.

Agree on Ratcliffe, we did that one this spring already. The problem with that one is the limited reservable spots. I'll likely need 3 spots, and they only have one currently.

I love Martin Dies. Hardly any people there last time I went over Thanksgiving break.
