Howdy, we live in Rockport, TX. A year ago a new home was built across the street from us, almost a year of constant construction mess. Two old codgers, now we are old, but these are old codgers, bought the home. About 3 weeks ago was sitting on the lanai having a toddy. It sounded like an explosion had taken place, tremendous loud noise, I went running to see if something in the house had blown up. It was not in the house. It was the Old Codger across the streets new car!

This thing is a Dodge I think, can never get much of a look at it. Whenever he starts it the sound is like being at a drag strip, NEVER heard anything this loud. My question for all the car guys is what can you buy that has this kind of sound? What modifications are required and if not modified who makes something that is this loud right off the lot? It is really unpleasant, what does a Codger need this for???

Why don't you simply be neighborly and go over and meet him and ask him and strike up a conversation about his car? Might be a good way to make a new friends.
As far as what does he need it for? Who cares. I'm sure you have stuff that other folks might wonder why you need it.
I have an older friend that's 91 and still flies his WWII restored aircraft every week.

That sounds like the folks that ask why we need a magazine that holds 30 rounds. Why have a car that has 120 mph on the speedometer but the max speed limit in most rods is 75 mph? I mean no disrespect. There used to be noise ordnances in most areas but if they are still on the books I don't think they reinforced.
So, does it sound like someone gunning the motor? It could have "straight pipes" or a very radical camshaft.
Is it really a new model auto or an older "souped-up" one? If they really are old codgers maybe they need that to wake themselves for the drive to HEB, TackleTown or the largest ACE Hardware I've ever seen.

Things in this world are sometimes so nonsensical, aren't they? I'm reminded of the time I was pulled over in my junker Corolla because my muffler was loud trash and I was trying to make it to my next paycheck to get it fixed. The officer and I had to wait to communicate while the pack of decibel-shredding Harleys roared by. I respectfully raised my eyebrows and he shrugged, 'I know...it's all about how quiet the vehicle is supposed to be. And that's the only explanation I can offer.'

Post a picture of it
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Sounds like fun. Send me your address so I can go see the old codger will take me for a ride in it next time I'm over there.

Checking back in on the car across the street. 2025 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Hellcat. Pretty lethal car for an 83 year old. Thanks for all the input.

Maybe he doesn't want to let the old man in.
As Clint Eastwood says….if you didn't know your birthday,
how old would you feel?

Howdy, OK have heard the critics, still not going over to his house. Riding by on my Recumbent I see him PLUGGING in the vehicle?? So my question is, do they put sound tracks and speakers on these cars to make them sound bad?? The start up noise is there for just a few seconds then nothing, not like an internal combustion after it starts, Big Boom, then nada. Are speakers on cars a thing now???
