Got the wife and oldest loaded up and off to Mountain Home for an oryx. Going to have my phone passively enjoying our time so random updates incoming. Going for a big bull.
Is it not cool that because of the stewardship of high fence ranch landowners, the Scimitar can be hunted in Texas? Hunting and habitat loss drove them to extinction in their native lands. Due to the cooperative efforts of some Texas landowners and wildlife agencies they have been successfully reintroduced into their native lands and just recently were moved from the "Extinct" list to "Endangered" list. Being able to have them in Texas, and thus giving folks the ability to affordably hunt them here, is a very fortunate thing. Have fun on your hunt Giddings, hope your successful sir!
Day 1 recap: saw lots of critters. Wife now wants to find a buck to shoot. Saw some good ones, but none she wanted to pull the trigger on. We saw the oryx, but never got a shot. Rode around and saw them several times, but all the oaks made it hard to get a clear shot. Today is the day though!
Shot fired. Didn't get a shot on a long stalk, and on the way out saw the group. Jumped them and got a great first shot in the big one and a follow up shot. Letting him lay while we get breakfast. Don't think he's far and great blood. Pumped!
