How common is this? Where Im going hunting in 2 weeks, this female supposedly has had triplets for four years in a row. South/West Texas

Black bears are the coolest! I hope populations around the state recover enough to eventually have a hunting season in west Texas, south Texas, and east Texas.

Game cameras on this ranch show there are plenty (unfortunately) they've torn apart a bunch of feeders

The cool thing about bears is that the litter size is often correlated with food availability. Three is common in some places. They can have four or five so,etimes, the record is six I think.

Not trying to get you to disclose exact location but whereabouts is this? I saw pics of a black bear just outside of Camp Wood the other day and we hunt about 10 miles east of there. Cool to see them coming back!

To see them at all is an amazing experience.
I am in the VA mountains most weekends and have been for many years, there are upwards of 20k in the state, most in the mountains and I've seen them there exactly twice. And both from my car. Once with cubs though which was super cool. I did also see one in Glacier. There was an animal jam, got out and saw him down in the woods.
But they are my favorite animal I could run into. Incredible creatures.

Despite the rarity of attacks on humans by black bears, there have been two separate killings by black bears in Arkansas this year.

Yeah, I'll just say I'll be roughly 30 miles from the Mexican border out in South-West TX. The wildlife that pops up on his game cameras is quite impressive. A full menue of things. Bobcat, javilena, wild hog, mule deer, white tail, auodad, and more. There aren't many people around him hunting and he has feeders everywhere with water sources. He's obsessed.

Here's hoping things are active when we go.

The mule deer and aoudad comment was good enough for me to know how far out you are. Sorry to put you on the spot and completely understand you not sharing more.

Spin cast feeder and bulk feeder side by side. Unique concept.

Looks awful dry. No wonder they are coming to feeders and water.

I've run into black bears with 3 cubs twice at big Bend while hiking. Also once at Great Smoky Mountains NP, so it can't be that uncommon

Hell, that's lush green for that part of Texas!

That mountain range in the background looks like van horn/valentine area looking towards Mexico?

Can you see a mountain range like that in the background in the Comstock/Del Rio/Bracketville areas?

Bears are just oversized racoons in the problems they cause. In the last few years I've lost three hot tub covers, a traeger tossed around and one broke into my truck. *******s!

My brother in PA says the same thing about bears just being big racoons. Funny you should say that.

A water source, a food source, and an unlocked truck in bear country.

I wouldn't exactly say the bears are entirely the problem.

I will be the first to admit that it is just vacation home bear problems and I get that the bears are just trying to get along like bears do. The hot tub is interesting though. They are not after the water. It is the foam in the cover that smells like ant larvae to them and that is why they rip it to pieces. The hot tub company loves me up there since a new one it about 2k a pop and I've been through 3 in the last few years. I think I am going to try another option for the hot tub. I installed an electric wire on my fence before I put the last new hot tub cover on and that did absolutely nothing to stop a bear. And yes I have to admit that I had no idea a bear could open a truck door that was unlocked. Thankfully that lesson only cost me about $20 for a new console latch off amazon! This has become more of a game on how to defeat the bears. I have given up for this year but I will come in hard this spring with a new plan!

ETA bears are notorious for destroying tractor seats also.

They're common around here (East Tennessee). We've had some within a mile of our house (we live rural East Tennessee). See them on the roads commonly. Been close to them - yell and scream and they run.

When I worked in the Cumberlands, we encountered them frequently. Carried bear spray for that reason if they got too close. I'm 30 minutes from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Can see it from my house.

People around here are stupid, and will get out of their cars within a couple feet of them to take pictures.

I'm not afraid of them at all, but I'm not also not stupid.

My brother-in-law's nephew hunts them; that's something I would never do. Bears are just different to me. The extent of my hunting is deer occasionally.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Frederick Law Olmsted's book, "A Journey Through Texas", describes killing lots of bears in the Texas Hill Country in 1857.

I was in Shenandoah NP, leaving the park around dusk a few years ago, and there was a bear munching whatever he could findon the side of the road. Given the time of year I'm sure it was hyper****ia.
Of course it caused an animal jam. But one genius got out of his car and was following the bear like 10 feet behind to get pictures and show how awesome he was. The bear wasn't that big (2 year old maybe?) and had some minor mange, plus he was totally in fattening mode, so the guy wasn't really his main priority. But man was I rooting for the bear to turn on him. Dude was an idiot, who had that "look how daring and awesome I am" smile on his face. To see that wiped would have been amazing.
