I'm looking for advice from any turfgrass experts out there.
A large amount of aster has proliferated my Bermuda grass front yard the last few weeks. Any suggestions would be helpful and also the timing of doing the work.
I'm thinking of just manually pulling out the aster and its long tap roots, possibly spraying with something like 24D or a combination of both or maybe you all can think of something else completely different. I fertilize twice a year (spring and fall) with a Milorganite product that golf courses commonly use and have a sprinkler system. The County extension agent was not much help. Thanks.

Yes, 2,4D will kill it right now but you need a preemergent program and likely need to up your water usage. I would also recommend applying some quick release nitrogen to help fill it the areas a little quicker. Usually a lime or gypsum routine is helpful as most of the time this stuff is growing in that nasty shrink-swell clay. I would suggest starting with some potassium and preemergent right now, then preemergent, fertilizer, gypsum in February.

It's pretty easy to control with a pre-emergent routine. If you spray and kill it now it turns black and woody and will hang around for a while, even though it's dead.

I'm not so sure you can kill it now - it's already pretty woody. It won't hurt anything to spray 2,4 D and it might kill it, but the first frost/freeze will get it.
Preemergent is the key and scouting for it earlier in the year when it is leafy green makes it easier to kill.
