That sucks, but I guess I am not surprised. I don't know how any paper publication survives anymore. I don't even know when the last time was that i held a newspaper in my hands, and I feel like I got some version of the Farmer's Almanac for free at the local feed store. They were stacked on the counter. But aside from that, I found it mostly a novelty. The collective knowledge of mankind if on the internet at the push of a few keystrokes. It's too bad, but that's just how technology goes I guess.

That's the "Farmers Almanac" that's ending. Not to be confused with the "Old Farmers Almanac" which is still going (and also supposedly better and has a larger publication base)..

Good riddance. Stupid book said I'd have a bumper crop of sorghum this year 'fore the beaver moon rises. Beaver moon done rose and nary a sorghum to be found. The missus is downright sore at me and I'm still not entirely sure what sorghum is

I read somewhere that the 'Almanac' is about 50% correct w/their predictions.

Dang. We got them every year for Christmas in our stockings from my grandma, and after her my mom kept it going. I have read them cover to cover since I can remember. End of era for sure.

The Old Farmer (me) is offended

What is is, is the itchiest damn plant the devil ever created. Want to sneeze your head off and be uncomfortable all day? Walk through the cloud of dust behind a combine cutting sorghum.

Or be the low man on the totem pole of the harvest crew, tasked with greasing the combine first thing every morning before startup. Guaranteed way to dislodge the 2 inch think layer of chaff nestled on the combine parts immediately above the back of your shirt collar.

Best day to wean. Still look this up every time I wean calves.

When showing calves I'd look up Best day to cut hair and encourage growth or best day to cut hair / discourage growth... depending on what we were doing.

Pretty sure it gained lots of popularity in 1816 after an accidental mistaken forecast of rain, hail, and snow in July issue was released. They recalled them all and replaced them, but news had already spread. The new company was likely quite concerned until July that year brought rain, hail, and snow in New England and Canada.
