We're thinking of taking a family trip (kids and grandkids) to Belize this summer and doing an all inclusive stay.

Any recent experience/advice/suggestions/warnings?

Thanks

Hamanasi Dive/Eco Resort in Hopkins, Stann Creek, Belize is your answer. Only thing you'll pay for is beverages and they are more than reasonable.

We stayed at Coco Beach Resort 2021. Highly recommend!!!

Not all-inclusive, but there's so much to see and do down there, I wouldn't want to be limited to one place. Rent a golf cart and the island is yours!

We found a private island that we rent for a week. Has three houses and dining.

I managed a fly fishing lodge on Ambergris Caye and got to visit a lot of other nice lodges.

My first choice for a family vacation would be Sleeping Giant Lodge. It offers a beautiful setting in the Mayan Mountains, great food and a lot of activities on the property or near by. They also have resorts on the coast so you can easily combine the rainforest with the Caribbean.

One of the most memorable outdoor things of my life was hiking to the top of a small peak on a misty morning to watch the sunrise while Howler Monkeys echoed through the valley and a pair of Scarlet Macaws flew by.

For summer ocean and beach trips I would look at southern Belize, like Placencia, Punta Gorda and Hopkins, instead of the more popular northern San Pedro/Ambergris Caye. Sargassum weed now covers up the ocean side most of the summer causing dirty water and a sulphur rotten egg smell.

An unpleasant part of my job during Sargassum season was walking down to the dock to greet new guests and seeing the look on their faces as they stepped off the boat to see muddy water and our grounds crew shoveling piles of stinking, rotting seaweed into a front end loader instead of the crystal blue water and peaceful beachside setting they expected. Feel free to message me for other ideas, questions, etc.
Picture they don't put on the websites.

My family had an awesome vacation there for spring break a couple of years ago.

Kids could snorkel inside the reef at the resort, dive down, and collect live conch shells so the resort could make us some fresh ceviche

Boys and I booked a deep sea fishing excursion outside the reef

The snorkeling trip took us to shipwrecks and a wildlife preserve area with turtles, rays, nurse sharks, etc

Family did the cave rafting trip on the mainland as well as some Mayan ruin tours, zip lining, hiking, etc.

It's fun for the family just getting around the caye on golf carts to restaurants or other beaches like the "secret" beach and it's fun for them taking the little puddle jumper planes to and fro the mainland several times between the resort caye and mainland for excursions.

You have to do the "chicken drop" at this one bar on the beach where someone is selected to shake a chicken and place it down on big chess board pen and everyone gambles on which number the chicken will poop on. Great fun.

Our resort was not all-inclusive though.
