20-15. Gives you a chance to talk to the guys putting on the hunt. If you are cool, they will share great intel. Don't know about this spot in particular, but it has worked at all the orientations I have been to.

There is a burger place near the hotel that had a decent burger, back in 2019.

Did they not let you all stay at Sauceda bunkhouse? No desire to camp?

It's a long, rough haul from Presidio to HQ and back each day. But you probably already know that.

One guy puts on the hunt, the park supervisor/police officer. There won't be a ton of unique info being shared aside from get up high and glass.

The orientation is in the morning at 8:30. Then the hunt starts. We are just renting an Airbnb for tonight. Tent camping in the park during the hunt. The bunkhouse is closed for some reason right now. Not sure why but they text us to tell us. We had already decided to tent camp so no big deal for us .

That one sentence is confusing….. let me clarify. I don't know why the bunkhouse is closed right now. They text the group to inform us of this.

Good deal, sounds like a great plan!

For my son's hunt in 2017 we were able to stay in Sauceda. Two years later when I hunted it, bunkhouse was closed. I did similar to what you all are doing. Stayed in Presidio the night before, showed up for orientation the next morning then camped in my compartment during the hunt.

How is it going? My brother is out there with his daughter and not seeing much in their unit.

Presidio sucks. Lived there for 6 months back in late 80s. Whole town had a cloud of dust constantly hovering over it because people just drive around all day doing nothing. /rant

I used to hunt on a family ranch half way between Marfa and Presidio. The mule deer were dumb. Can walk up with in about 30 yd of them sometimes. If you shoot and miss they run 10 yards and stop to look back at you.

I had luck finding them mid day laying next to *****ly pear. Hard to spot but once you do you can get close for a good shot.

El Patio is decent.

All the local Mexican places are good IMO.

So far 2 kids have shot GOOD ones. One kid got a small one. The big ones were probably both 175"+. We haven't seen much at all. Lots of miles in rough mountains. We are hunting with a friend. So, 2 boys hunting. We have seen 2 groups of doe since we got here. A group of 3 and a group of 4. My friend's son did shoot a javelina yesterday. The afternoons are pretty warm, mid 80's

That's what we call them. Don't know the proper name

There are two types of acacias there, and one is commonly called catclaw. And it is terrible, grabs you and is hard to get loose. Once you learn what the leaf shade and shapes are, you can mostly steer clear of them.

On the plus side, when there is a brief rain and the moisture sort of releases the organic scents of the plants there, it smells so great there. Like the best air freshener scent you could imagine.
