Grain bin boot question

My dad has a few older Behlen grain bins. They have bazooka-farmstar augers. I'm not very familiar with the nomenclature but where adjustable angle auger goes into the boot at the bottom, there is a rubber boot/seal between the bin and the auger...The auger is a 4" and the hole it goes into is an oval shape...probably 8" x 12". That rubber boot is dry rotted and needs to be replaced.

Haven't had much luck with any of the contacts at the manufacturer... I'd like to replace the rubber parts but I haven't found a source, if one exists.

I'll try to get a picture and post it soon. The stuff I find online doesn't look anything like what he has.

I'd love an actual replacement, but I agree...that's probably where things are headed.

One option would be to buy a truck loadout sock, but size the diameter to fit the maximum width of your oval side. Wouldn't be a perfect fit, but I figure you could snug it up around your smaller inner diameter and have you a material that should last longer than your rubber.

At my last job I build material conveyance machines. We had a company we could buy from that would make custom size socks for transitions between machines. I can't recall the name right now but it'll come to me.

If you can't find a molded part, take it off as best as you can and take all the pieces (to use as a pattern) to an awning shop. Have them make you a replacement out of pvc coated fabric (get something heavy like 32-40 oz).

If that doesn't work, you can always get some PVC coated fabric or heavy vinyl sheet and glue it together yourself. It needs to be dark gray or black so the UV won't eat it up.

Not as good as a molded neoprene or urethane boot, but it will work.
