Very interesting video of what has happened on the lower Bluer River in Colorado. I have heard that Paul Tudor Jones maybe spends a week or two a year there. I am just shocked that CPW would allow all of this.

Such BS and sad.

i would rather catch an 18" wild trout than one of those freak triploids.

i wish CP&W would prohibit private landowners from stocking fish in a river.

Yea it is crazy but I am sure it is the money talking. It has really affected the health of the river. Supposedly the bug hatches used to be prolific through there but with all the river work that is no longer the case. I think it has really hurt the wild fish population between the river work and competition from these giant trout.

He kinda skirted over the "navigable" waters part and what the law says about the river in that area. Would like to hear all the facts and learn more about the story.
He seemed to say that the Jones dude has done a lot for conservation in that area? Would be good to get some CDNR input and information on the topic.

The most threatening thing for other waters with Colorado type stream access is Blue Valley Ranch building "Trout Habitat Structures" that can't be floated over and then claiming trespassing when boaters get out to push their raft or kayak off the structures.

There is no such legitimate thing as trout habitat structure. There is a structure that creates artificial eddies that concentrate frout in water that is easier to fish. That would be a fishing enhancement structure.

Another recent article for those interested. Also these "side channels" are clearly visible on google earth along with the ponds he has created.

Don't want to derail this thread; but things like Half Log Structures, Wisconsin LUNKERS and others absolutely are designed for Trout habitat, resting spots and overhead protection from predators like Ospreys, Herons and people. They are designed to make it harder not easier to catch trout from them.

Nothing pisses me off more than losing access to public waters. When it happens, we dont get it back. Same story, different state. Rich guy buys land and doesnt want deplorables on "their river". Then the government is either in on it financially or just goes along because they're lazy and it makes their job easier.

I kind of get it but really, any larger rock creates a tiny eddy or slip stream and the fish can almost effortlessly slide in to it and wait for food to drift by. I'm of the view that they are fish concentrators or attractors more than anything, for the most part. I'm sure there are exceptions that have basically the same function as a natural fallen log or large random rock in the river.
