My concertina teacher, Caroline Keane, has created a Kickstarter to fund the recording of a new album. She's an incredible musician (and teacher). If any of you have an affinity for Irish traditional music or if you just want to help out a good musician, consider making a donation to her Kickstarter.

Here's a tune from her first album, Shine.

Nice! You take concertina? Awesome. I've been learning Uilleann Pipes for the past year or so. Did you happen to be in Midlothian for the Irish Music Retreat in Oct? If so, I may have spoken to you.

No but Caroline was one of the concertina teachers there. I'm going to the Gulf Coast Cruinniu in Houston in June. She'll also be teaching there. Her husband, Tom Delany is an incredible pipe player. Check him out. Here's a video of them playing together.

Have you ever been to Willie Clancy in Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland. I've been the last 3 years but not going this year. Hope to go in 2027. People come from all over the world and the instructors are incredible.

Caroline had a great first day with her Kickstarter. She's raised $2,533 from 40 backers. She needs to raise another $14,928 by December 23 to meet her goal to fund her new album. Here's the link to her Kickstarter if you want to help. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/carolinekeanemusic/caroline-keane-ii

Here's some more music from her.

Outstanding! No. Won't make that. I'll be heading to Scotland in June to hike the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way, then take a train to Northern England to pick up my brand new 3/4 set of pipes. Trying to save the scratch for that trip (not to mention the pipes). But I will put that one on my list for the future...

Thanks for the info!

That sounds like a good trip you have planned. I did something similar last year. I picked up a new concertina from a maker in Tralee when I went to Wille Clancy last summer.

More about Caroline from her website.

" Caroline was, from a young age, exposed to a wealth of traditional music.

Growing up in Limerick, she was surrounded by the musical richness of both Clare and Sliabh Luachra, influences which have become the cornerstone of her uniquely vibrant, passionate and emotive style of concertina playing. Now having toured extensively throughout Europe, Canada, America, Australia and New Zealand performing at festivals such as Fleadh Cheoil na hireann, Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, Celtic Colours, Dublin Ohio Irish Fest, Woodford Folk Festival and many others in both solo and ensemble capacities, Caroline is truly a world musician.

At the age of seven, Caroline began taking tin whistle lessons at her local Comhaltas branch, and soon afterwards progressed on to concertina. Under the guidance of her teacher, Noel Hill, she developed proficiency in her art, and by fifteen, was performing both nationally and internationally. In 2006, Caroline was awarded the prestigious Ln Mara award, in recognition of outstanding achievement in national music examinations.

Caroline has been playing concertina for more than twenty years and professionally since 2007. She achieved a first class honours while studying Irish traditional music at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick. She has most recently graduated from the university's Master of Arts in Traditional Irish Music Performance, where she again achieved the coveted first class honours. Caroline is a prolific composer of contemporary Irish repertoire inspired by her interaction with traditional music on a local and national level, since studying composition within her BA degree.
In addition to her TTCT diploma in Irish traditional music teaching, Caroline also completed a Professional Diploma in Music Education in 2012. Her versed approach to tutelage is not only a testament to her musical expertise, but demonstrates the patience and empathy of experience. She is a regular performer and tutor at Irish, roots and folk music festivals all over the world, and teaches, lectures and performs regularly around the South West of Ireland.

Since 2013, Caroline has been a member of the group FourWinds, performing "An exciting landscape of tunes and lyrics that present Irish traditional music in a modern and creative context". Caroline has just released a duet recording of traditional Irish music with uilleann piper Tom Delany entitled 'Never Say Goodbye, Say Good Luck' which has received rave reviews and international critical acclaim since its release.Caroline has just released her debut album "Shine". While on home soil, Caroline currently lives in Dingle, Co. Kerry, where she performs regularly."

When Caroline isn't performing solo or with her husband Tom or being a wife and mom, she's a member of an Irish trad band called Four Winds. This video showcases her skills on concertina as well as Tom's skill on the pipes.
