Has anyone done any offshore fishing off Kauai? Headed there soon, and have forgotten to look into this until now.

Unless you are going out of Kona, the fishing in Hawaii is terrible. There is nothing there to hold fish. It will be a $1200 boat ride. Either expect to enjoy the view from the boat....or spend your time doing anything else.

Or get a jumper to Kona and go with the Humdinger. Even then only consider a full day trip. You dont start catching fish till they get several hours away from the dock.

Yeah, We were really looking forward to fishing in Hawaii too, but it wasn't that great. Scenery was awesome though.

Kinda the same recommendation. Don't really know the fishing situation for the other islands, but Kona is king for fishing in Hawaii. Highly recommend going out with the Topshape (finishing up an engine replacement this month).

My family has a 600+ blue that was weighed, and 2 800+lb estimated blues tagged and released. Plus a lot more released blues. My 1st trip to Kona, I had a Kona slam over 2-3 days. 800+ blue, a striped marlin, and spearfish. Last trip, we landed a triple header of blues, while trying to get a 4th blue to take another lure.

It's been 10 plus years, but fished with Nemesis Sportfishing out of Port Allen (south side of the island) and I ended up catching a ~160 pound yellowfin tuna (it was during the summer and they were catching alot of big tuna at the time). It does seem like it can be hit or miss, but from what I gather fishing is definitely better than on some of the other islands (Maui, etc) though doesn't hold a candle to Kona. Captain Darrin and his deckhand were both great though from what I can recall.

Water is overrated.

Yes, I realize the subject of this thread but blanket statements are dangerous.
