For the late, youth-only hunting season (1/5-1/18), are they allowed to shoot bucks, or just does and spikes? I'm assuming bucks are allowed. Otherwise, I don't know why it would be differentiated from the special late season, but don't want to end up making a big mistake.

Check here for the county you plan to hunt.

A quick check of Bandera and Duval counties shows spikes and does for the youth late season.

Duval general is 11/1-1/18 and the youth-only is 1/5-1/18. Special late is 1/19-2/1. So what purpose is the youth-only when it is concurrent with the general season? And, in general, what purpose is youth-only if it follows the same restrictions as anybody else? The 10/24-10/26 youth-only distinction makes sense because they can use a rifle, but adults only a bow.

Looking at the highlighted parts below for youth-only, I interpret rifle and normal general bag limits apply for Kimble County because the first two days of the general season allow for bucks and does.

With any doubt on the regs, I'd call (text would probably get a quicker response and you'd have it in writing) the GW for the county you're taking the kiddos hunting.

Called the game warden and bucks are allowed for youths during youth-only in Kimble County.
