Thought it was a mole(s) but today at 3 pm I saw it pop up. Previously years ago my dog dug up two black moles. This thing was almost mouse size and brown. I put in some bait and the pocket gopher dug the hole up pushing the bait away. Rejecting my plan.
I dug the hole deeper and put more bait in and will monitor. There are a dozen mounds in the background.

Very frustrating. If I lived in the country, I would've grabbed my shotgun and fired from a distance before it could tunnel back down. Only about a body of 4" my guess is it is very young. I thought it might be a vole but supposedly they don't make mounds.

If you have a cat or a neighbor with cats, take some of the ammonia rich cat box clumps and dump them in the burrow, then stomp some dirt in over the top. Do it a few times and they will no longer dig in your yard.

If you want to f up your yard and repair a bunch of sprinkler lines, sure, go ahead. Tennis ball can full of tannerite with the open end stuffed into the burrow would probably work too.

I have 1 of these currently deployed. Also heard they like juicy fruit gum.

Thanks for the heads up. We have an area of about an acre on our property, a high sand ridge, that has always had a few mounds but this year there are like 100, lol. I have been trapping them, but yeah, they are wiley. With the old style Victor traps you have to know which direction they are coming from. Guess wrong, and they spring the trap without getting caught, or push dirt over on top of the trapo as they seal the hole you dug. Looks like the Gopher Hawk would catch them regardless of their direction of travel. Going to give it a try!
