Due to the $0 NFA fee, it Looks like there has been a YUGE influx of Form 1 submittals between 150,000 and 350,000. Speculations that this could qualify suppressors as "common use" and lead to further de-regulation.

Anyone have experience with 3d printed suppressors?

Home printed suppressors?

3D printed suppressors out of titanium and exploding right now. Tons of smaller operations doing really cool stuff that wasn't previously possible with traditional machining. Actually got to witness some get printed at a shop here in Houston and it was a super cool process.

Yes, I believe the form 1 is for the DIY type not for manufacturers.

I could see home printed baffle models used to create the shape for a sand casting mold, perhaps.

From what I have read, people will print one with the $0 tax. It will work for a few thousand rounds of something like 22lr, or a few hundred higher pressure rounds. Then they just destroy it, and provide documentation of destruction. And then for $0 you just get a new stamp and start over again.

Unless you are printing metal (and those printers are >$1 million) I don't see polymer working on anything other than 22 LR. I know design files are out there, but I have 0 trust.

I'm assuming most of the Form 1's are SBR. People are submitting them for all their lowers in case they want to convert to an SBR, with no intention to do it at the moment.

I had to read the bolded sentence several times....

At first I took it to mean they were literally exploding apart

I realized that could be taken in the negative way after posting. Market is growing like crazy right now and it is a super cool time. I think prices will start dropping once inventory catches up with demand and there will be way more options out there. If same or next day approvals become the standard, I expect more local shops to actually stock suppressors.

I definitely see the increase in engineered "additive machining" suppressor designs and they seem to be becoming the standard.

I was more intrigued by the DIY home printing with the development of printable composites like carbon fiber reinforced filaments and the $0 stamp. It seems that oven if you printed something that could run a few hundred rounds, you are likely spending $20 in materials. You could print a dozen or two for less than the price of a 22lr can.

If you want to print me one for my 22, I'll break it and burn it for you.

PTR parent company Centre Firearms must be busy as hell filing cease and desist letters.
