Texas Music has a long history in Bryan-College Station and Texas A&M.

There are the famous alumni: Robert Earl Keen, Lyle Lovett, Roger Creager, Granger Smith, Dylan Gossett, etc..

The longtime venues and events: Chilifest, Hurricane Harry's, Hall of Fame, The Palace Theater, The Grand Stafford, The Tap, and many more.

And more legendary shows than we can probably count. I always reference Cross Canadian Ragweed at Shadow Canyon as the best example of what Texas/Red Dirt Music is when I'm talking about the scene to someone who's unfamiliar.

But what about the songs that mention Bryan-College Station or Texas A&M specifically?

There is, of course, The Front Porch song by 1978 grad Robert Earl Keen. It's timeless and reflects the time REK and his buddy Lyle Lovett started their songwriting journeys while attending Texas A&M.

And then there's "Traveler's Song" by Flatland Cavalry with the intro that everyone knows: "Well I miss College Station, them boys were good to me. Well, I burned Northgate down, I been the life of the party."

Shameless plug: If you haven't gotten your tickets to Troubadour Festival on March 28 at Midtown Park in Bryan, here's your chance. We're bringing REK, Flatland Cavalry, Waylon Wyatt, Jason Boland & The Stragglers, and more - along with 30 of the best BBQ joints in Texas.

There are plenty of other songs that talk about the University or BCS. You've got "The Fightin' Texas Aggie Song" by Dub Miller, "Kyle Hope" by Whiskey Myers, "We Bleed Maroon" by Granger Smith, and so many others.

Which one's your favorite?
