Our family ranch sold several years ago in Willow City and I have just been booking hunts since then (or just hunting around here). It's a long story, but our neighboring place sold off to a rich guy in San Marcos and he drove and convinced my at the time 88 year old grandpa at his office to sell ours on the spot without it even being listed or considered for sale. It sold for a fraction of what it could have gone for on the market (seen the numbers) and I've been pretty depressed about it since. Well, after 5 years of wasting money on weekend hunts and missing our place, I've started looking for a little lease for the family and can't seem to find anything. Seems that word of mouth usually is better anyway so I guess if anyone has a recommendation on somewhere to look or knows of a place, let me know. Will pay a finder's fee if something works out. Budget varies, just mainly looking west or northwest of Austin. I know these posts pop up all the time, but I'm legitimately curious if there's a good place to post or look. Thanks in advance and feel free to PM. Budget can vary quite a bit too.

On the Willow City loop?

Just drove the loop a few weeks ago...first time I've done that in about 20 years. Some great memories.

Yup. Haven't been able to drive the Loop since he sold it. One of those things you'll just never know or understand why. Oh well. I guess that's life.

Check with Behrens Feeds (Was the old Bode's Feed Store) in Harper Texas. They usually have some leases posted.

I've long advocated hitting the local feed stores.

As, said, look for the pinned advertising board.

Giddings. I have sent some folks to the local chamber of commerce in Junction and Llano with decent results in finding leases. The small ranching towns COC's are usually made up of local ranchers.
Might also try contacting the Exotic Wildlife Association in Kerrville. They oftentimes have a list of landowners that have leases available.
Also reach out to the local TPWD biologist in those areas. Lots of them are fellow Ag's. I knew of landowners wanting to lease when I was working as such.
If you do your due diligence and some networking you will turn up something usually.
Another source of info is the local taxidermist in those small hill country towns.
I've still got a lot of contacts in the hill country. I'll put the word out to some landowners and business owners I know and see if I can get any leads for you….if so I will PM you the info. Give me a few days to get past our weather event here at the ranch.

My brother is a county commissioner in San Saba. He knows everybody. When I need a lease I ask him to go to his network. It usually ends up being a place that he already has the grazing rights for and the landowner could use some extra $$

We have a family place near Cherry Spring that is about to be leased, after not being hunted for about ten years. It's only a hundred-or-so acres, but I'd like to get someone on it who we can trust.

Awesome. Thank y'all all for the info. My FIL has hit a few feed stores over the past few years with no luck. I'll keep looking though.

I'm interested if op isn't - not trying to hijack his thread. If you wouldn't mind emailing more details. Thanks

I used to hunt that area back when I was in high school, like 20 years ago. We were on a lease with mostly my family. I think it was called the Parker Ranch. I just looked at it on Google and it looks like the whole place got turned into smaller plots and maybe some Air BNBs.

I'd love to find a place out that way to hunt again. We had the best family time, and now that my kids are old enough I want to get that going again.

Damn man, didn't realize we had same roots there. Our land is on Davis-Althaus. We have folks leasing right now, but if things change and I have an opening, I'll reach out. Won't be this year but I'll probably take it over when the kiddos put a few more years on them.

Refreshing to see Ags helping another with recommendations instead of making jokes about finding a lease. Best of luck Giddings!

Hey, if I hadn't at least already put in some effort I should be given a hard time. But after a good bit of work looking, I just keep coming up cold. Have a lead from a TexAg'er so far at least though.

Giddings. One of our close friends near Harper called me and they have 500 acres that they lease. It has been the same group for awhile and they are up in years and may not take the lease anymore.
The landowners live on the place and are great folks. They were asking me how many people you have in mind.
There is no cabin but there is electrical hook ups.
I will PM you.

Anyone got leads on something in the polygon between say Rockport, Karnes City, Bastrop, Temple, Hamilton, Stephenville, Cleburne, Streetman - Houston?

Big area, but not south texas and not really the hill country.

I don't, but I bet my brother does.
He's been in San Saba county since the 80's. I just go there to visit and hunt.

I've been fortunate in the hunting lease department, it's the grazing leases that are basically impossible to find for me! (Coryell county)

Good luck OP on your lease search. Another option that I haven't seen mentioned would be reaching out to local realtors. They can know the intentions of buyers and sometimes provide leads.
