Looking at buying a camper. Does anyone have any contacts or dealers that are recommended?

Located between SA and Houston preferably.

My unsolicited advice from someone who has hauled a travel trailer and a 5th wheel to all three coast lines in the US, buy used from an individual. It'll be cheaper, they will have most likely diagnosed and fixed most of the bugs and they usually give away all of the extras for free that will cost you time and money to buy.

That said, good luck and have a blast!

Agree with the poster above. When I sold my camper I wasn't getting another one, so the leveling hitch, ramps for changing tires, hoses, sewer pipe and connections, extra linens, solar battery charger, case of damp-rid, electric rodent things, and small tool bag with what you need to work on it all went with it.

PPL has a large inventory of used ones if you don't want to mess with looking at private sellers.

This popped up on the Classifieds board a little over a week ago. Looks like a pretty good deal for a nice camper that appears to come with everything you need to get started. I had my eye on it but we're thinking of going a little bit larger.

If looking for new and a dealer, stay away, far, far, away from anything to do with Ron Hoover. Good lord these folks are idiots. I knew better from past experience with their Houston area dealerships, but up here they are even worse. I should have walked here like I did in Houston 25 years ago. But I did not this time and am paying for it.

Another piece of advice. If you know you want to do this camping thing I would 100% by the size trailer you want and then get the truck to match it. Do not buy a smaller trailer to match the tow vehicle. This is what I did. And I ended up hating the trailer…selling it…buying a bigger truck….and then finally getting the trailer my family was good with.

And if you're going to travel quite a bit with it I would highly recommend the 5th wheel. Just night and day pulling that compared to our TT. Lots of people do it but for me it made all the difference.

I have a 21' Chevy 2500 Duramax.

Looking at a 37' in length. Not sure I want to do the 5th wheel due to cost.

That's plenty of truck. Like I said, lots of folks do it and don't mind it, it was just something that really stood out for me.

I have a 36' bumper pull that is 9500lbs and I tow it behind a Chevy 2500, and it's plenty. I went from a bumper pull toy hauler, to a fifth wheel toy hauler, and now in the 36 bumper pull tt. I miss the garage sometimes, but I don't really miss the fifth wheel. I get way more use out of the truck bed and it will probably be retirement before I go back to a fifth wheel.

I will say spend the money on the sway control and it makes all the difference. I also echo the poster that said buy the trailer that will work best for your use, not the one that fits your current truck.

I have 2021 Sandpiper model 379FLOK, I will be selling at the end of February or early March. I'm in the Seguin area if interested. Text 432-553-0822

My only input is get a camper with two A/Cs. Unless the camper is really small you will sweat your butt off if you camp in the Texas summers. I have a 33 foot camper with only one A/C and had to buy a portable one to put in the bedroom and you could still only cool down to the upper 80s at best. It was at my deer lease for 5 very uncomfortable years until I got a new 20 footer with a 15k BTU A/C and you can hang meat in that thing if you so desire.

That wasn't our experience. We had a 26' with one AC on a 30 amp service and it would get refrigerator cold in that thing.

But maybe that's the difference between campers of that size.

My FIL is selling his located in La Grange. Buy it so I can have some brownie points. It really is pretty nice. Just depends if you're looking for something this big.

Nice camper, but way out of our price range.

My brother has this model, except with the rear bunk room. They love it.

For the A/C talk, in my experience, the cut off seems to be about 26-28' before needing a second unit. In my first travel trailer (26') I vividly remember it being 104 in July and the camper was able to stay in the high 70s. I bumped up to a 32' the next summer, same spot and same time of year, and I couldn't get it cooler than the mid 80s.
