I have a 13mo old golden that I am looking to send off to obedience training. Hes smart and energetic and I have just not had the time or energy to train him like my previous dogs. Below are the main areas I am trying to get cleaned up.

1. No jumping or nipping at people. This is simply because he is so excited and energetic. The nipping is not hard or aggressive, it is tiny nips on clothes or hands just because he cant contain his excitement.
2. Better on a leash - he is pretty good, but I would like for him to be perfect on a leash
3. Listening - hes one of the stubborn goldens who will lay down and refuse to move if they dont like what you are asking them to do (get in kennel or go outside). I'd like to be able to take him places and know he will come to a command without me sounding like a lunatic, or when I tell him to come to me instead of a visitor that he will do so.
4. Stop picking up everything on the ground - Much harder, but every sock, towel, kids toy, etc, becomes his own toy.

Any recommendations for trainers in Texas are appreciated. Preferably within 6 hours of Houston.

More precise location would be helpful, but we used Hendriks Kennels near Katy, and they did a great job. Have to leave your pup with them for a while, bet he will be well behaved when the program is done.

If you are in the Cypress area Ed at Cypress Dog Training is excellent and affordable. We just finished up 5 lesson with our 3 yr old Goldendoodle and she now walks calmly by my side, sits, down, goes to her place and stays there, waits for OK before going through doors. Mostly greets people without jumping on them, some continued work is needed here but he laid the groundwork.

Second for Hendricks in Katy. Took our black lab out there when he was ~8 mos. old and their training has really stuck. We just did the on-leash portion (one month), but they offer off-leash training as well for an additional month.
