Is there a way to block a skunk from spraying my dogs through a chainlink fence without blocking my view? If that's not possible which I assume it's not, what's the best way to prevent this besides getting a privacy fence? Would those vertical slats work? Amazon sells vinyl strips that you install diagonally and snap on, but they seem to wear out quickly and don't cover the entire diamond of the chainlink.

And to answer the obvious question, trapping doesn't seem to work because apparently I live next to a stretch of woods that is a skunk breeding ground and no matter how many I get, they still multiply and use that path for their skunky activities every night.

Ive never used it so no idea their effectiveness but they make those "invisible " fence lines where you can set a perimeter via GPS....dog wears a collar that beeps/shocks if they go beyond perimeter. Maybe set it 3 ft interior of your fence so pup cant get in range. Called a invisible fence or something like that.

At our ranch we had a similar problem but the difference was the skunks came into our yard and then our two goober German Shepherds would get sprayed. They never learned. They would do it again and again.
As with you, killing the skunks did no good as they just came back.
So I talked with one of my dad's K-9 trainers and he said to put a shock collar on them and train them to not go near them. Basically the same technique as rattlesnake training.
I already had the collar so I gave it a try. It took some dedication on my part as I had to wait till we saw a skunk in the yard…..and the dogs did get sprayed but it did break them from going after skunks.
Friend of ours took his hunting labs to a place down south of San Antonio that had skunks and they trained them to not go after skunks.
If his labs so much as see a skunk they make a huge circle to stay away from them.
Think it might be better for you to skunk proof the dogs instead of the yard.
I think there is the same folks that do rattlesnake training over by Pfluegerville or Austin somewhere that also do the skunk training.
Maybe Agvet13 on here can help with who that is.

Boat racing is like beautiful women……..expensive, high maintenance, but well worth the fun!

No advice on how to effectively block the fence, but skunk tails are apparently worth something these days. If you can get word to all the teenage boys in the neighborhood that the tails are valuable, then perhaps the skunk population can be drastically reduced.

This is my day off and I just woke up. Haven't had my coffee yet. I read this and took this a whole different way for a second. Going to get my coffee now,

Maybe I've had too much coffee because I don't get it.

Shock collars and anticipated effectiveness on skunks. Also anticipated success rate getting collar on skunk.

Well, I suppose you could always line your fence with plexiglass. Think it comes in 4x8 sheets.
